2 artists: Picasso and Picabia
Two artists with Spanish roots, both working at the avant-garde, constantly experimenting with new forms of expression, both at the heart of Parisian artistic movements. While Pablo Picasso became more famous than Francis Picabia, each made considerable contributions to the 20th-century art. "Picasso - Picabia" exhibition is on from October 11 to January 13. The Mapfre Foundation opened an exhibition hall at Casa Garriga Nogués in 2015 and, since then, has been bringing new exhibitions from well-known artists. On this occasion, we invite you to see the exhibition "Picasso - Picabia" which aims to brings together 2 artists who have rarely been put to the same exhibition, bringing together more than 150 works and archival documents. The "Picasso - Picabia" exhibition takes a journey through the history of art from Cubism to Dadaism and ends with a selection of the latest works by both painters. On the one hand, Picasso returns to the human figure and, on the other, Picabia reduces the act of painting to subtle monochromes dotted with dots. The exhibition brings works from the Musée Granet, Aix-en-Provence and the Musée National Picasso in Paris.
This exhibition will take you on a journey, starting with the emergence of Cubism around 1910, then moving on to Dadaism of which Picabia was a major protagonist, and traveling to the mid-1920s when both Picasso and Picabia were into classicism. The exhibition ends with an examination of the paths that each artist took towards the end of their lives. Picasso concentrated on studies of the human body, while Picabia took a reductive approach, creating understated monochromes.
