On Friday 16, Barcelona will light up in color. The Font Màgica de Montjuic, the Twin Fountains of Plaza Catalunya and the fountain of Passeig de Gràcia will be dressed in green to commemorate St Patrick's Day. There will be an hour of water show with Irish music at the Font Màgica de Montjuic, painted green for the occasion, from 8:30 pm until 9:30 pm.
Along with that, one of the main options to celebrate St Patrick's Day is to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of an Irish pub: Dunne's, George Payne and Michael Collins. Elfa Failynn will welcome attendees with storytellers, pastry and makeup workshops inspired by Celtic mythology. The Irish and Catalan music will be there, strengthening ties between both cultures with a bagpipe performance by the City of Barcelona Pipe Band and the Tabalers de les Corts. During the day there will be more activities including popular Irish dances and food, while in the afternoon the Irish party will continue at the bar Kitty's, taking the role of rugby in the spotlight.
Three contemporary Irish artists (Richard Hearns, Johnny Fitzsimons and Mark Redden) invite you to celebrate St Patrick's Day with the Iomramh exhibition in Espronceda. It is a kind of ancient Irish stories about the maritime journey of a hero to the hereafter. Written in the Christian era, they preserve elements of Irish mythology. These 3 artists have traveled the world in the incessant search for more knowledge, to create and find a unique pictorial ideal. Their work ranges from abstraction to figuration, and is both allegorical and intuitive.
On Sunday there are more St Patrick's Day plans for you in Barcelona: the 8th edition of the Currach Race in the Mediterranean with participating crews from America, Ireland and other countries. The currachs are typical Irish wooden boats that go rowing. The route of the regatta will depart from Moll de la Marina and will consist of 800 meters of route by sea. After the competition, there will be a demonstration of Gaelic sports on the beach, Irish music with the Bauma group and an Irish dance session offered by O'Connor School of Irish Dance.
