The Gran Teatro del Liceo (the Liceu Theatre) brings the opera closer to the public, with the open air event called Liceu a la fresca (Open Air Liceu), organized in Barcelona, as well as in different towns of Catalonia and all over Spain. After the success of previous projections like "La traviata" or "La bohème" Liceu a la fresca returns one more year with "Il trovatore", the opera that is performed on the stage of the theater at Las Ramblas. The absolute premiere of this Verdi's famous opera was on January 19, 1853 at Teatro Apollo, in Rome. The premiere in Barcelona was a year later, on May 20, 1854 in Liceu! In total there were 275 performances in the Liceu theater until 2009.
Liceu en el Territorio is a project that drives the struggle against the prejudices and stereotypes of the opera, that it is antique and boring... With this event, you will surely enjoy the opera! In Barcelona you can follow the broadcast of "Il Trovatore" at:

The Liceu a la Fresca initiative this season it is expected to reach 2,877 people and 69 towns in Catalonia. Some cities like Bilbao, Granada, Las Palmas, Malaga, Pamplona, Santiago de Compostela, Seville, Valladolid are going to broadcast il Trovatore as well. The recording will be made with 8 cameras located in the theater hall of the Liceu. The event is totally free and starts at 10 pm on July 21, so make you sure you come a little bit earlier to take your seat!
