September 11 is a day to go out and just stroll along the streets, participate in different events and walk with flags along the parade, attend several concerts and even take advantage to enjoy the amazing gastronomy offered by different restaurants of Barcelona during this day. In general, the activities take place between Passeig de Sant Joan, Passeig de Lluís Companys and Ciutadella Park. Also, there are lots of people walking around La Rambla, Rambla de Catalunya and Passeig de Gràcia. La Diada is also an opportunity to discover some of the Catalan traditions, such as the traditional Sardana dance or the impressive "human towers" called Castellers!
If you still do not have plans for the Diada we have various ideas for you: museums, institutions and some palaces open their doors and can be visited on September 11 for free!
1) El Palau de la Generalitat will open the doors for free during la Diada, as will do the Parliament of Catalonia, which will have its rooms open to citizens between 10am and 7pm.
2) The museums also join the initiative: the Museum of Archeology of Catalonia (which will open from 10 to 14:30) and the Museum of History of Catalonia also offer free admission from 10am to 2pm and will allow the access to the permanent exhibition.
3) The National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC) can be visited free of charge between 10am and 3pm, as well as the Museum of History of Barcelona (MUHBA) between 10am and 7pm.
4) Finally, there is a magnificent palace that you will have the opportunity to visit for free, the famous Palau Güell, one of the most emblematic of the Guadí buildings opens its doors between 10am and 8pm.
